Munich, October 2024 – The Collaborative Research Center Additive Manufacturing in Construction /TRR 277 AMC made a significant impact at the Long Night of Museums in Munich, held at the iconic Deutsches Museum. As part of the 25th anniversary of the city-wide cultural event, AMC brought cutting-edge construction technology to life through hands-on workshops and live demonstrations, sparking immense public interest. Making research tangible At the TUMlab, AMC researchers led by Anna Keune and the Ö project organised the ‘Clay Houses’ workshop, where participants explored the world of 3D design. Focus on Innovative Construction Technologies: Practical Workshops on Digital Fabrication

20 International PhD Students Visit Braunschweig At the beginning of September, TU Braunschweig became a hub for 20 young researchers attending a workshop in conjunction with the Digital Concrete 2024 conference. From September 1 to 3, these PhD students had the chance to experience cutting-edge research approaches and advanced infrastructure related to digital construction and fabrication processes firsthand. German Steel Construction Award for Linus Schmitz

and the winner is… Linus Paul Schmitz, winner of the German Steel Construction Award 2024 for his term paper on the topic: SERIAL becomes INDIVIDUAL, local reinforcement of standard I-profiles using WAAM technology. Steel beams can be exposed to individual load situations, creating a need for additional reinforcement. His solution: Using WAAM, i.e. the free additive application of material at the points where the load case is increased, can be individually reinforced without having to use a generally reinforced steel girder. This saves material. LABDay at the Collaborative Research Centre AMC What possibilities does 3D printing offer for architecture and for the entire construction industry? What can this new technology do and how can it be used creatively? The AMC LABDay was initiated to get to the bottom of these questions with school students. In this one-day workshop, pupils learn details about the digital fabrication process from design to production. The special feature: the school students can digitally design an object themselves and this object is then printed on site by a robot. The first workshop was already a great success. Der dfg-geförderte Sonderforschungsbereich Additive Manufacturing in Construction blickt auf einen erfolgreichen Zukunftstag 2023 zurück. Wir haben Schülerinnen eingeladen, um sich über die Möglichkeiten und Herausforderungen des 3D-Drucks im Bauwesen zu informieren und ihnen eine praktische Einführung in diese Technologie zu geben. Es war ein aufregender Tag, an dem die Schülerinnen nicht nur die Grundlagen des 3D-Drucks kennenlernten, sondern auch unsere fortschrittlichen 3D-Drucker in Aktion erleben konnten. Wie wird Digitalisierung und 3D-Druck im Bauwesen eingesetzt? Wie gestaltet man in einem digitalen Prozesse Bauwerke? Und wie können neue Technologien dafür eingesetzt werden schneller, kosteneffizienter und nachhaltiger zu bauen.
