AMC Summer School 2026
END OF JUNE, THE COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH CENTRE TRR277 AMC GATHERED FOR THE AMC SUMMER SCHOOL AT LAKE AMMERSEE WITH OVER 80 RESEARCHERS. IN THESE FIVE DAYS, PARTICIPANTS ENGAGED IN FOCUSED DISCUSSIONS, EXCHANGED PRESENTATIONS, AND JOINTLY PLANNED ON THE FUTURE OF AMC.
Day 1 of the AMC TRR277 Summer School at the Haus der Bayerischen Landwirtschaft in Herrsching started with high temperatures, high expectations and even higher motivation among all participants.
Following the welcome by Co-Spokesperson Kathrin Dörfler, the afternoon focused on presentations of the planned Collaborative Demonstrators, which showcase the progress achieved across the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC). After the traditional welcome barbecue, we closed the day with an inspiring keynote by our Mercator Fellow Virginia San Fratello, who captured the spirit of making with her statement: “I think with my hands.”
Harald Kloft started Day 2 by presenting the roadmap for the third funding period and explaining the various guiding principles. Researchers worked in groups to discuss future collaborations and to identify the synergies across projects and areas during a lively and productive afternoon session. After refreshing swim in Lake Ammersee, we had two further inspiring evening lectures to close the day by our Mercator Fellows; starting with the talk of Carlos Lázaro on material efficiency in large scale structures through form and Simos Gerasimidis on the fascinating world of architected materials, sparked engaging discussions on the interface with Additive Manufacturing.
On Day 3, all research groups presented concise updates on the status of their projects, which again highlighted the many research streams within the CRC. The afternoon set the stage for in-depth group discussions. As had already become tradition during the week, many participants ended the day with another swim in the lake.
Day 4 featured a diverse programme of presentations, including updates on the CT-project by Gido Dielemans and Jeldrik Mainka, the I-project by Vid Stevanovic, and the Ö-project by Živa Simšič. The morning session was closed by Beate Czech from TUM ForTe, who delivered an insightful session on patenting and licensing, followed by a lively discussion. The official programme of Summer School concluded with the traditional hike to Kloster Andechs for a shared dinner with a view.
On Day 5, shared ideas were consolidated and specific next steps were agreed upon which then marked the end of the Summer School.

About TRR 277 AMC: The Collaborative Research Center TRR 277 Additive Manufacturing in Construction (AMC) is dedicated to advancing research in the field of construction, with a focus on leveraging 3D printing technology to revolutionize sustainable and energy-efficient building practices. Through innovation and collaboration, the center aims to usher in a new era for the construction industry. In the interdisciplinary, cross-location and dfg-funded research project, the two universities TU Braunschweig and TU Munich, pursue the novel manufacturing approach for the construction industry. Additive manufacturing can develop into a key technology for the digitalization of the construction industry. Complex research questions on materials, process engineering, control, modeling, design and construction are being investigated holistically by scientists from the fields of civil and mechanical engineering.
