Dr. Ryan J. Sherman AMC-MERCATOR-FELLOW
Dr. Ryan J. Sherman, P.E., is an Associate Professor in the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His expertise encompasses the material behavior and structural performance of metallic wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), as well as large scale structural testing, fielding monitoring of in-service structures, and steel bridge design and evaluation. His current research focuses on the use of WAAM to advance the design of steel structures and on integrating advanced testing and monitoring to validate performance. Professor Sherman currently serves as the Chair of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Additive Manufacturing Exploratory Task Force and leads the AISC AM Demonstration Bridge Project. He will be commencing a collaboration with AMC project A07 (Hensel/Kloft/Unglaub). The collaboration between Professor Sherman and AMC aims to develop, manufacture, and test a large-scale demonstrator to advance high-level research on AM of steel structures. The demonstrator will combine Professor Sherman‘s expertise in WAAM, material and structural testing, and bridge engineering with AMC’s strengths in advanced manufacturing, design optimization, and physical and virtual component testing. The research will encompass a range of topics, including the combination of semi-finished parts and WAAM nodal connectors manufactured with as-built surfaces. These innovations have the potential to transform the approach in modern structural engineering, enhancing strength, durability, and design flexibility. The Mercator Fellowship will concentrate on fatigue performance, buckling behavior, and large-scale component performance of metallic WAAM structures.
M. Sc. Dorina Siebert
Doctoral researcher: carrying out scientific studies. She will play a decisive role in planning and conducting fatigue and fracture testing. The evaluation and interpretation of test results is also one of her tasks. Finally she undertakes statistical considerations, which are intended to serve as a basis for the development of design guidelines.”
M. A. Živa Simšič
is a doctoral researcher at Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Assistant Professorship of Learning Sciences and Educational Design Technologies, TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, and TUM Institute for Advanced Study (IAS). Živa’s background in arts education serves Project Ö’s constructionist and design-based research initiative to create the AMC Edu:Lab, a dynamic learning space designed for active engagement with AMC research and innovation. In her research, Živa aims to support education about and with AMC technologies at an early age, to integrate gender-equitable perspectives into additive manufacturing practices, and to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability in construction among youth.
M. Sc. Martin Slepicka
is developing a data structure and corresponding methods (WP 2) that enable a closed chain between digital design (e.g. BIM) and digital manufacturing (mainly Additive Manufacturing). For backwards communication of "as-built" information during and after a manufacturing process, digital twin methods are incorporated into the developed FIM system (WP 3).
Dr. Harper Staples
Harper Staples is a postdoctoral researcher at Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Assistant Professorship of Learning Sciences and Educational Design Technologies, TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, and TUM Institute for Advanced Study (IAS). Her current research draws on mixed-methods approaches to explore the role of arts-based education in STEM contexts in fostering young learner social-emotional learning and in shaping future construction spaces.
M. Sc. Alexander Straßer
is a research associate at the Workinggroup of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Gehlen. Responsible for research on selective paste intrusion and development of cement pastes.
B. Sc. Justyna Stec
Justyna Stec joined TRR 277 as a guest Master’s student from Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr), collaborating with project A04. During her stay at TU Braunschweig, she worked on Shotcrete 3D Printing (SC3DP) of concrete modified with spent catalyst and fibres. Her research involved preparation of specimens to investigate hardened material properties tested later at her host university, and a shared analysis of results. The work carried out within TRR 277 formed the basis of her Master’s thesis, and is now being continued as part of her doctoral research at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Vid Stevanovic
Dr. Vid Stevanović works at the University Library of the Technical University of Munich. As a data steward, he is responsible for data management strategies and support. He works on discipline-specific standards, repositories, and research data infrastructure. He is also developing new coaching materials on various topics related to best practices in research data management. Currently, he is covering for Silke Sturm during her maternity leave.
